Effect of manual and chemical thinning on production quality of "Colins" and "Jerseyland" peach fruits
1989
Modic, D. (Biotehniska fakulteta, Ljubljana (Yugoslavia))
Retardation and the inhibition of flower bud differentation, induced by GA3, resulted in flower - fruit reduction. The treatment with GA3 was found to be suitable for thinning cv. "Collins". Thinning with GA3II was more successful in terms of quantity and in the development of red colour, while manual thinning increased fruit diameter. Trees of "Jerseyland" showed too intensive natural reduction of fruits. Therefore, there were found very significant differences in intensity of thinning and production of fruits. In the first year of treatment the reduction was highest, in the second year there was no reduction, while in the third year the reduction was lower than in control. Manual thinning increased, like GA3I, diameter and red colour of fruits, and treatment with GA3II was unsuccessful. Therefore, fruit thinning in cv. "Jerseyland" is not recommended for this area.
