Race and virulence surveys of wheat powdery mildew in the German Democratic Republic

Race surveys, i.e. analyses of individual mildew isolates can be used to determine the virulence structure of a mildew population. Virulence surveys can give information about the effectiveness of resistances by exposing differential varieties to the natural mildew population and counting colonies on the seedlings.
