Treatment of chronic endometritis in the cow with PGF2a

The result of treatment of chronic endometritis of a varying severity with PGF2a have been studied in a total of 147 infertile cows in the area of Thessaloniki, according to the following schedule. a) In 45 cows (group A, controls) the treatment of endometritis was based on the intrauterine infusion of Lugol's solution and a suspension of antibiotics-sulphanilamides. b) in 38 cows bearing a corpus luteum (group B) the treatment consisted of I.M injection of 25 mg of PGF2a. c)In 35 cows bearing a C.L. (group C) the I.M. injection of 25mg PGF2a was supplemented with intrauterine infusion of a suspension of antibiotics and sulphonilamides. d)In 29 cows bearing a C.L. (Group D) the treatment consisted of infusing 10 mg PGF2a diluted in 10 ml of saline into the cornu ipsilateral to the ovary bearing the corpus luteum. The animals were inseminated 72 and 96hrs after treatment. The percentage of restoration of fertility were evaluated on the basis of calvings and in a few cases on the results of the palpation of the uterus in the 2-3rd month of pregnacy. The results of the above therapy were the following. Of the 45 animals of group A, 27 or (60%) conceived, of the 38 animals of group B, 33 or (86.84%) conceived, of the 35 animals of group C, 31 or (88.5%) conceived and of the 29 animals of group D, 22 or (75.8%) conceived
