Nutritional and dietetic value of pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo L.)

In Serbocroatian language 31 names for pumpkins exist. Its pulp is rich in potassium, very poor in uric acid, without other purines and oxalic acid. Pumpkin seeds have a plenty of proteins (24-29), fats (36-47) and iron (15 mg). The fats are composed mostly of polyunsaturated fatty acids (47). The pulp can be used as a diuretic and antidiarrheic means, and the seeds have an antihelminthic effect.
