Immunoenzymatic analysis of zeins from normal and mutant corn Opaque-2 seeds

Using semipreparative isoelectric focusing in polyacrylamide gel in the pH range of 5-6, alpha-zein polypeptides have been isolated from total zeins of normal and mutant at Opaque-2 gene seeds of the corn A204. Rabbit antibodies against seven IEF zein components (both normal and mutant strains) have been obtained. A high degree of immunogenicity of alpha-zein polypeptides has been established. Data from immunoenzymatic analysis point to an extensive cross-reaction between alpha-zein polypeptides.
