To understand the intracellular mechanisms of non-apeptide hormone action within ovaries, the influence of oxytocin and vasopressin on cAMP release by porcine granulosa cells was studied. It was observed that addition of arginine-8-vasopressin or oxytocin stimulated cAMP output from cultured granulosa cells. Moreover, vasopressin, but not oxytocin, increased LH-stimulated cAMP release. It is proposed that vasopressin and oxytocin, like LH, can exert their action on the porcine ovary via the activation of cAMP-dependent intracellular mechanisms
