Escherichia coli is well known as the causative agent of a number of intestinal and extraintestinal human infections. In this review different virulence factors, adhesins, haemolysins, K antigen, siderophores, colicins serum resistance, enterotoxins, cytotoxic necrotizing factors and verocytotoxins are discussed.
