Siegfried, L. | Kmetova, M. (Safarik Univ., Kosice (Slovak Republic). Faculty of Medicine)
Escherichia coli is well known as the causative agent of a number of intestinal and extraintestinal human infections. In this review different virulence factors, adhesins, haemolysins, K antigen, siderophores, colicins serum resistance, enterotoxins, cytotoxic necrotizing factors and verocytotoxins are discussed. Common characteristics, mode of action, association to particular E. coli strains and the role of these factors in pathogenesis of human disease are presented
