Variability, heritability and correlations of sugar content in the stalks of maize lines

The breeding method is based on the fact that a large positive correlation was found between the sugar content of the parenchymal cells of the maize stalk and the digestibility of the cell walls. Experiments on the heritability of the sugar of the maize stalk were carried out between 1988 and 1990, as the result of which 16 silage maize hybrids were granted state registration by 1998.
