Mushroom production is a success-sector of the Hungarian horticulture. Between 1990 and 2000 the highest yield of mushroom growing was reached. In 2001 Hungarian growers produced 36.000 tons of mushroom, its value was 17-18 billion HUF, while the value of exported fresh mushrooms reached 23 million USD. 93-94% of exported fresh mushrooms was champignon, 5-6% pleurotus, and 1% shii take. The increase of mushroom-export to the EU is limited by the 18,6% tariff put on Hungarian canned mushroom, and also the 2,2 euro/kg extra tariff.
