Fodder quality of three species of grassess and their mixtures with legumes

The investigations included two field experiments located in different regions of Poland. The levels of crude protein and water-soluble sugars were estimated in three grass species (Arrhenatherum elatius, Dactylis glomerata, Phleum pratense) grown in monoculture or in 2-component mixtures with legumes (Trifolium pratense, Medicago media, Lotus corniculatus). In both experiments the dry matter of grasses contained a similar amount of the examined compounds. Legumes had a clearly positive influence on the crude protein content, whereas their effect on the level of sugars was not so obvious
