Effect of eicosapentaexoic acid (EPA) and gliberaclamide (GLC) on streptozotocin induced diabetes in rats was studied. There was a significant reduction (P0.01) in plasma glucose, cholesterol and triglycerides in EPA, GIC and EPA + GLC treated groups over diabetic control group levels. However treatment for 4 weeks did not bring back the value to normal level. Between treatments combination was not found to be a superior over individual treatment. Although the results obtained in the present study reveals a comparable effect between EPA and GLC, further clinical trials are required for firm recommendation.
