Screening of lipase-producing bacteria from rotten oil palm fruits

56 isolated bacteria during growth on rotten oil palm fruits were studied on olive oil emulsion agar (olive oil 2 percent) and crude palm oil emulsion agar (crude palm oil 2 percent). 21 lipase-producing bacteria isolates can hydrolise olive oil in olive oil emulsion agar, only. Crude palm oil in crude palm oil emulsion agar was by 5 isolates. And both olive oil and crude palm oil were hydrolised by 17 isolates of lipase-producing bacteria. Three groups of selected bacterial were inoculated on Trybutyrin emulsion agar for 24 hours to clear zone around its colony testing and 7 isolates that showed 1.8-2.0 cm width of clear zone were choosen. Only 3 isolates, UTCC-B20, UTCC-B55 and UTCC-B56 produced extracellular lipase activity of 2,093.8, 1,666.7 and 2,708.3 U/L, respectively after culture at 37 deg C for 24 hour in a media containing 10 percent (v/v) base mixture, 0.01 percent yeast extract, and 1 percent olive oil in 0.2 M phosphate buffer pH 7.0.
