Forty-two Japanese Black steers were used for the evaluation of growth performance and carcass characteristics. These steers were equally divided into 3 groups to be fed on whole-shelled corn (WC), cracked barley (CB) or steam-rolled barley (RB) for 39 weeks prior to slaughter. Each concentrate contained 30% test grain and 8% chopped rice straw formulated the total mixed rations.
