English. With Latvia's turn towards market economy two decades before, tourism has increasingly gained currency as an agent for regional economic development. This paper investigates the changes of the system of organization of tourism place promotion after the recently completed administrative-territorial reform. The problem becomes topical because of the lack of discussion on different spatial structures of tourism in the Latvian language. Analyzing domestic tourism, what are the relations between a tourism place, a tourism destination, and an administrative unit? This paper reports on identified differences between tourist demands and the system of organization of tourism. Travellers find administrative boundaries insignificant, whereas places are almost always promoted according to the administrative boundaries of the counties.
