The technology of green forage preparation and keeping in bales is discussed. Experiments and demonstrations of the technology were started in some regions of Latvia in 1996. As the nutritional value of forage is in its dry matter content, the samples taken from 16 different farms were analysed to determine their mean dry matter content. It has been stated that due to the rather low mean dry matter content obtained by the bale technology its profitability for farmers should be considered.
