In experiments using meat contaminated with tunicamycin, cattle, sheep and pigs displayed clinical sensitivity to tunicamycin in the oral dose range of 0.5 to 1 mg per kg, and a total cumulative oral dose of only 1 mg per kg body weight was potentially lethal. A minimum latent period of 4-5 days appeared necessary between the initial oral dose of toxin and the first signs of a clinical effect.
