The USDA Bureau of Soils Educational Sample Kit was created by the Bureau of Soils in 1916 for use in schools and colleges teaching agriculture and physical geography.
In 2015, a teacher in the Cumberland County (New Jersey) School District, who found the kit stored in a school classroom, gave it to an office of the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS).
