Leslie Ellsworth Card (1893-1986) earned his B.S. (1914) and Ph.D. (1922) degrees from Cornell University. He was head of the poultry division of the University of Illinois from 1922 to 1947, and head of the animal science department from 1947 to 1957. An author of poultry textbooks and many scientific articles, Card researched poultry breeding, physiology, and egg formation. In 1968, he was elected to the American Poultry Historical Society's Poultry Hall of Fame.
