Ornamental flowers, known for their vivid colors, fragrances, and esthetic appeal, contain a wealth of bioactive compounds, making them valuable resources across industries. This review comprehensively outlines the uses and properties of ornamental flower extracts, which are rich in phytochemicals like phenolic compounds, flavonoids and alkaloids. These constituents exhibit antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, and pharmacological activities, leading to applications in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, food, and nutraceuticals. In pharmaceuticals, these extracts serve as a source of natural compounds with therapeutic potential. Their antioxidant properties, in particular, have been studied for their ability to combat oxidative stress and related disorders. The cosmetic industry extensively integrates ornamental flower extracts for their anti-aging and skin-rejuvenating properties. In the food industry, these extracts enhance visual appeal, extend shelf life, and enhance nutritional content catering to the natural and functional food market. Additionally, these extracts are used in the creation of specialty teas and infusions. Overall, ornamental flower extracts represent a valuable source of bioactive compounds with diverse applications across multiple industries. Their properties contribute to the development of a wide range of products in pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, and the food industry.
