The oil emulsion and alhydrogel pilli vaccines were prepared from a strain (O9: K35, K99, F41) of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli isolated from calves with diarrhea and their immunogenicity was tested in guinea-pigs, pregnant goats and cows. Serum antibody responses to K99 and F41 antigens in guinea-pigs given experimental oil and gel vaccines peaked at 4 and 6 weeks after vaccinations. At that time, the mean hemagglutination inhibition titers to K99 and F41 antigens in guinea pigs given oil vaccine were 1:25 and 1:1,218 and those given gel vaccine were 1:54 and 1:724 respectively

Reduced egg production with depigmented, chalky deposit, wrinkled and malformed eggs was observed in breeder flocks throughout the country. The disease was identified as Infectious Bronchitis based on serological findings and virus isolation

This paper deals with the incidence of antibiotic resistance and of R plasmids in 319 Salmonella strains isolated from various samples on 7 piggeries in Taegu, Kyongbuk, Kyongnam and Chungnam and a slaughter house in Taegu during the period from May, 1984 to May, 1985. Of the 319 strains examined, 250 (78.4%) were resistant to one or more antibiotics such as ampicillin (Am), chloramphenicol (Cm), gentamicin (Gm), kanamycin (Km), sulfadimethoxine (Su), streptomycin (Sm), rifampicin (Rf) and tetracycline (Tc), and higher resistant to Su (74.9%), Sm (53.0%) and Tc (28.5%). Only two Salmonella strains isolated from A and C farms were resistant to Rf and Gm, respectively

1986
Cho, H.T. | Chung, K.Y. (Kyongnam Animal Health Laboratory, Chinju (Korea R.)) | Suh, M.D. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
This survey was conducted to investigate the prevalence of the internal parasites of Holstein cattle rearing in western Kyongnam including Chinyang, Sachun, Namhae, Haedong, Sanchung, Hamyang, Geochang and Hapchun Area(Gun). A total of eight hundred and twenty five heads of Holstein cattle was randomly selected for the faecal examinations and the internal parasitisms were examined by floatation method using saturated salt solution and sedimentation method using 0.5% trio-soap solution

1986
Kwak, S.D. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. pf Veterinary Medicine)
The papillary tubercles (PTs) developed on the splenic capsule of normal Landrace pigs were collected and their histological structures were observed with light microscope. The external features of the PTs were smooth spherical or oval form protruded on the splenic capsules. On cross section of PTs, the shapes were predominantly round or elliptical single follicular form, and were often multifollicular and irregular form in some PTs

Lee, B.W. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Shin, J.U. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The measurement of angled erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), as a replacement for perpendicular ESR, for cattle blood was scrutinized since it has been well known that perpendicular ESR in cattle was tpp slow to be adopted as an effective clinical test. Samples of blood were taken from 186 Korean native cattle over 2 years old. Average values of perpendicular ESR/24hrs in 15 apparently healthy cattle, as measured by Wintrobe, Westergren and capillary tubes, were 5.8 +- 2.2, 11.1 +- 3.7 and 10.4 +-4.5% respectively, which were found to be similar to the values of perpendicular ESR/hr of normal blood of human

This paper deals with the isolation of Salmonella on 3 herds during the period from May 1984 to May 1985. Isolated Salmonella were examined for serotypes, adhesive fimbriae, antibiotic susceptibility and detection of R plasmid. Of total 1505 cattle, 24 Salmonella were isolated from 18 cattle (1.2%) and their serotypes were S. enteritidis (9 strains), S. derby (4 strains), S. infantis (1 strain), C1 group (8 strains), C2 group (1 strain) and untypable (1 strain). Twelve strains of Salmonella were isolated from 227 cattle with diarrhea and their serotypes were S. enteritidis (4 strains), S. derby (3 strains), S. infantis (1 strain), C1 group (3 strains) and untypable (1 strain)

Lee, N.S. | Lee, J.H. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
In order to know the comparative histological structure of the tongue of some domestic and laboratory animals, the root of the tongue has been investigated by light microscopy. The filiform papillae were mainly distributed in the root of the tongue of most animals and many foliate papillae were also found in the dog and rabbit. The very well-developed mucosa was found in the cattle and in the dog, fowl, rat and mouse was fair. The lamina propria was well developed in the cattle, dog and pig. The muscle layer was well developed in the cattle. The adipose tissue which distributed between the muscle fibers was mainly found in the dog

In order to evaluate the effects of the cell-mediated immunity of the animal in the chronic diseases the guinea pigs and rabbits were inoculated with Mycobacterium bovis. After 6 weeks these animals were sensitized and challenged with 2, 4-dinitrochlorobenzene. The cutaneous reactions observed in these animal species were similar each other. Macroscopic and microscopic responses in the animal experimentally infected with M. bovis were markedly reduced compared to those in the control animals

Shin, S.S. | Lee, B.W. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Shin, J.U. (Kyongsang National Univ., Chinju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
The purpose of this study was to develop a new method which enables the goat ESR to be used as an effective clinical test. Blood samples were taken from 61 Korean native goats aged above one year old and the effect of tube inclinations, tube bores, tube lengths, environmental temoeratures during tests and packed erythrocyte volumes (PCV) on the ESR were observed. The ESR/hr using capillary hematocrit tube (Micro-Ht-tube) was gradually increased as the tube angle inclined from 90 (vertical) to 15 degrees and the best angle in view of both security and fast sedimentation rate was found to be an angle of 45 degrees
