1986
Kim, S.C. | Jo, C.H. (Seoul National Univ., Seoul (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Lee, K.W. (National Animal Breeding Inst., Sungwhan (Korea R.))
The 587 Holstein cows which calved from Jan 1983 to Dec 1984 at an integrated dairy farm in Chungnam province were examined for the incidence of reproductive disorders and their conception rate after treatment. The incidence of reproductive disorders was 47.9% (281 heads) among 587 heads which calved. As number of calvings increased, the incidence of reproductive disorders decreased. The cows which calved in spring and summer showed significantly higher incidence of reproductive disorders than those which calved in autumn and winter (p 0.05)

Choi, W.P. | Park, N.C. | Lee, G.L. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
This paper deals with the incidence of bovine mastitis for 743 quarters and distribution of Staphylococci for the quarter and 70 bulk milk samples in the northern area of Kyongbuk during the period from Jan to Dec 1984. Isolated Staphylococci were examined for species, subgroups, antibiotic resistance and penicillinase production. A total of 25 (73.5%) of 34 herds, 102 (54.3%) of 188 cows and 208 (30.3%) of 743 quarters were found to be infected with subclinical mastitis. A total of 83 (83.1%) of 102 cows, 94 (45.2%) of 208 mastitic quarters and 55 (78.6%) of 70 bulk milk samples were isolated Staphylococci

This paper deals with the distribution, reservoir and mode of spread of salmonella infection on 7 pig farms in Taegu, Kyongbuk, Kyongnam and Chungnam and a slaughter house in Taegu during the period from May 1984 to May 1985. Isolated salmonella were examined for serotypes and biotyping of S. typhimurium. Of total 7,995 samples from 7 pig farms and a slaughter house, 319 salmonella were isolated from 234 samples (2.9%) and their serovar strains were S. derby 77, S. infantis 41, S. enteritidis 20, S. typhimurium 18, S. bredeney 16, S. london 14, S. paratyphi B 9, anatum 8, S. montevideo 8, S. senftenberg 7, S. thompson 6, S. pullorum 4, S. paratyphi A a and untypable 70

1986
Shin, T.K. | Kim, M.G. (Chungnam National Univ., Taejon (Korea R.). Coll. of Medicine)
Authors evaluated retinal toxicity produced by intraocular injection of kainic acid in 10 ducks to provide further informations on the kainic acid induced retinal lesions in the avian species. By 8 hrs after injection there were severe vacuolar degenerations in the inner plexiform layer and the inner portion of the inner nuclear layer; by 24 hrs after injection many of the cells exhibited pyknotic nuclei in the inner nuclear layer; by 48 hrs after injection the reduction in the thickness was apparent in this layer because of the partial loss of the pyknotic cells. By 96 hrs there were only a few cells in the center and inner protion of the inner nuclear layer; by 10 days there was a conspicuous decrease in the thickness of the inner nuclear layer and the inner plexiform layer

1986
Chang, S.M. | Lee, C.S. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
Four colostrum-deprived, 1 day old pigs were orally infected with the porcine enterovirus isolated in Korea. Two of the pigs were treated with dexamethasone (5mg/kg/day) for 3 days. The others as control were infected with porcine enterovirus only. The treated, infected pigs developed ataxia at 3 postinoculation days, neural disorders at 8 postinoculation days, 1 week earlier than those of the controls. Histopathological examination of both the treated and the control pigs revealed non-purulent polioencephalomyelitis consisting of neuronal degeneration, perivascular cuffing, meningeal infiltration, focal and diffuse gliosis. The severity of the histopathological lesions in the treated pigs was more prominent than those of the controls

Chemically induced delayed cutaneous hypersensitivity in guinea pigs and rabbits experimentally infected with Mycobacterium bovis
1986
Lee, C.Y. | Lee, C.G. | Park, Y.J. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
In order to evaluate the effects of the cell-mediated immunity of the animal in the chronic diseases the guinea pigs and rabbits were inoculated with Mycobacterium bovis. After 6 weeks these animals were sensitized and challenged with 2, 4-dinitrochlorobenzene. The cutaneous reactions observed in these animal species were similar each other. Macroscopic and microscopic responses in the animal experimentally infected with M. bovis were markedly reduced compared to those in the control animals

The cycle of the seminiferous epithelia in the testis of mature Korean native cattle was divided into twelve stages, using criteria the morphological changes in the acrosomic system and the nuclei of developing spermatids and germ cells. The minimum number of type A spermatogonia were the average of 1.8 in both at stages 1 and 6, while maximum numbers were the average of 4.2 at stage 12. Some type A spermatogonia divided at stage 12 to produce the type intermediate (IN) spermatogonia at following stage 1. The intermediate type spermatogonia divided at stage 4 to produce the type B spermatogonia at stage 5

The present study was undertaken to evaluate rosette formation and NK activity of splenic lymphocytes in 3-methylcholanthrene (MCA) treated mice. Mice were sensitized iv with 0.1ml of 1% sheep red blood cell (SRBC) suspension were treated with a single ip injection of olive oil alone or with different doses of MCA in oil at various time before or after sensitization, and were challenged at 4 days after SRBC. Rosette formation and NK activity of splenic lymphocytes were measured at 24 hrs after challenge

1986
Park, C.K. (Kyongbuk National Univ., Taegu (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine) | Kang, B.K. (Chonnam National Univ., Kwangju (Korea R.). Dept. of Veterinary Medicine)
Isolation of Staphylococcus hyicus subsp. hyicus from piglets suffering from exudative epidermitis and healthy pigs was performed, and some properties of the isolates were examined. Twenty-six litters of exudative epidermitis observed in the field were sucking piglets with ages ranging from 1 to 5 weeks and most (73.1%) of these cases occurred in piglets between 2 and 3 weeks of age. Staphylococcus hyicus subsp. hyicus was isolated from 192 (38.9%) of 494 healthy pigs. The rate of isolation of these organism from healthy pigs was found to vary greatly among farms at an isolation rate of 33.3% to 45.5% and this organism was isolated more frequently from sucking piglets below the age of 8 weeks than adult pigs
