Studies on the food and feeding habits of Cyprinus carpio II. diel and seasonal patterns of feeding of the fish

The results of the studies on the diel patterns of feeding of 64 and seasonal patterns of feeding of 75 fry and fingerlings of Cyprinus carpio (L) are presented. With respect to diel patterns of feeding, the fish was found to be a continuous feeder with maximum feeding activity at day and minimum at night. It showed highest feeding peak at noon (1200 hours). Though the different food groups showed considerable variations in amount with hours of the day, yet the fish did not show any tendency to change its food items with the change in hours. With respect to seasonal patterns of fooding, activity with the change in season. Comparatively high feeding activity was recorded during summer and low during winter. It also changed its food habits with the change in season.
