The rate of survival of Staphylococcus epidermidis in raw milk was shown to be not related to the number of cells present in a milk sample. A second stimulation of the udder enhances significantly the cell response to the stimulant. A negative and highly significant correlation exists between the number of somatic cells in milk and number of S. epidermidis cells surviving
