The development of endosperm is of the Helobial type. The uninucleate chalazal chamber is metabolically active and exhibits nucleo-cytoplasmic interaction. The embryogenesis conforms to the caryophyllad type. The basal cell persists and blocks the emergence of the root through proper site in Potomogeton and Najas. The embryo shows 3 intraseminal leaves in Potomogeton nodosus; 3 to 15 in Najas sp. The cells of the cotyledonary and hypocotyledonary regions are groged with polysaccharide granules.
