Dispersal potentiality of the infective juveniles of the entomogenous nematodes, Neoaplectana carpocapsae [Egypt]

Biologists dealing with infective juveniles of the entomogenous nematodes did not refer to the nature of attraction between the parasite and host. They only recorded that a host 2-14 cm apart from the parasite could be infected. The present study illustrated that the infective juveniles of Neoaplectana carpocapsae could migrate to infect host 15-24 cm apart from them. Though a feeble kind of attraction seemed to occur between the parasite and host, yet, dispersal percentages showed random migration of the parasite in its vicinity. Strong stimulation is denoted by the orientation of huge numbers of the parasites towards the insect host Spodoptera littoralis, a phenomenon which was verified by the present trial. Trifle percentages of the parasite reached the host and made infection.
