The nitrate content of some green forage and its possible effect when used for ruminant nutrition

Since intensive fertilization of meadows, with mineral fertilizer, may cause an increase in nitrate content in herbal mass, nitrate content has been tested in different plants used as food for ruminants. An estimation of the risk of possible toxicity of these nutrients, is shown through the formation of methemoglobin in the blood of the animals.
