By-catch for human consumption
1982
Pariser, E.R. (Massachusetts Inst. of Technology, Boston (USA))
This research paper stresses the proper use of one of the by-products of the shrimp fishery, the by-catch, for human consumption. The author points out that the problem can be solved with the available technologies in a way that makes solutions acceptable and profitable to different local circumstances, wherever the problem arises. The number of selective fishing methods like the electric shrimp trawl system and gears have been proposed and developed. Preservation by mechanically refrigerated and circulated seawater (RSW), RSW with spray, or chilled seawater (CSW) are advocated. Processing of products is recommended to be done on land.
