Taxonomic study of forest insect pest in subfamily Cassidinae of Thailand

Taxonomy of the tortoise - beetles Subfamily Cassidinae which are the forest insect pests of Thailand has been studied. Five genera, nine species are recognized as follow: Aspidomorpha sanctaecrucis Fabricius, Aspidomorpha furcta Thunberg, Aspidomorpha miliaris Fabricius, Calopepla leayana Latreille, Calopepla mouhoti Baly, Epistictia viridimaculate Boheman, Laccoptera quadrimaculata Thunberg, Laccoptera vigintisexnotata Boheman and Prioptera westermanni Mannh. All of them are defoliators. The host plants found belong to four families, they are Verbenaceae, Rubiaceae, Cuttiferae and Bignoniaceae. Calopepla leayana Latreille, is a serious pest of plantations or in the stands of gregarious species, habitat and host plants are discussed and recorded.
