Control of mango hopper, Idioscopus spp. (Cicadellidae : Homoptera) by insecticides

Experiments were carried out for 6 field trials to compare the residuals effects of various synthetic pyrethroids and other insecticides against the mango hopper during blooming season in 1986-1988. The first spray treatment with each insecticide was applied on the same day after flowering, and further application were made only if the hopper population subsequently crossed an arbitrary threshold level of five hoppers per inflorescence. Spraying should be started at panicle emergence stage and all the insecticidal treatments were significantly effective in reducing the pest population as control. Synthetic pyrethroids and monocrotophos were found to be the most effective and persistent.
