Seagrasses and associated invertebrates in the coastal waters of Eastern Sorsogon, Philippines

This paper is an attempt to put on record the seagrass species, including associated invertebrates, found in the eastern coast of Sorsogon Province, Southern Luzon, Philippines, based on a study undertaken in 1990. Observations and collections of study materials were made along transects set, and within quadrants laid, on seagrass beds in six sampling areas. Nine species of seasgrasses, were found in all sampling areas except Halodule pinifolia which was found only two sites, namely: Halodule uninervis, Cymodocea rotundata, C. serrulata and Syringodium isoetifolium of the family Potamogetenaceae, and Enhalus acoroides, Thalassia hemprichii, Halophila inor and H. ovalis of the family Hydrocharitaceae. The invertebrates found with the sea grasses were mostly shelled molluscs, 25 species of gastropods and seven species of bivalve. Some were echinoderms, four asteroids, two ophiuroids, three echinoids and two holothuroids species; and the rest were a few unidentified species of crustaceans, polychaetes, coelenterates, and sponges
