Bush encroachment : a thorny problem

Describes the extent of the problem of bush encroachment: an area covering 17 million hectares. The main problem species are acacia mellifera and Dichrostachys cinerea. They lead to a decline in carrying capacity of between 20 and 80 per cent. Economic consequences and methods of control are briefly outlined.
