The quality of dry matter of 8 cultivars created in the Center for Forage Crops at Krusevac, Serbia (Yugoslavia) and other introduced cultivars of different grass species were compared. Total energy value of all the grass cultivars was the lowest in the first cut and the highest in the third cut except to the species Festuca pratense and Arrhenatherum elatius which had the highest energy value in the second cut. The highest energy value of crude fiber was in the second cut for all species except for Dactilus glomerata which had the highest value in the first cut. On the other hand, Dactilus glomerata cultivars have the highest energy value of water soluble carbohydrates (WSC) in the second cut while it is the highest in all the other species in the third cut.
