Dichlobenil: acute and subacute toxicity to carp

Acute and subacute dichlobenil toxicity to common carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) were carried out. Acute toxicity was investigated in a semi-static test during a 96-hr exposure. The estimated LC-50 value was 10.9 mg/L. Subacute toxicity was investigated by exposing fish to different dichlobenil concentrations (2.5, 5.0 and 10.0 mg/L) for 14 days. Biochemical and histopathological changes in organs and tissues were investigated. The results show that dichlobenil produces changes of varying intensity depending on the parameter tested, the organs and tissues examined, as well as the dichlobenil concentration. Biochemical changes were most prominent in the serum enzyme activities (alkaline phosphatase (AP), glumatic-oxaloacetic transaminase (GOT), glutamic-pyruvic transaminase (GPT)). Histopathological changes were observed in the gills and, to a lower extent, in liver and kidneys.
