Selenium (Se) and Mercury (Hg) contents of composted domestic solid wastes

This paper reviews the relevant studies concerning mercury and selenium contents of particularly the domestic solid wastes and sewage sludges. Since there above mentioned chemical elements show toxicity through digestion, respiration and their absorption, it is necessary to consider their existance in the composts of these urban disposals. Studies examining the soils on which the composts applaid are also undertaken. Since the concentrations in foods are being affected by these applications, the maximum and tolerable limit values for human beings are also given
