Restraint and transportation of 3 Sambar deer (Cervus unicolor) were carried out by intramuscular darting with Tiletamine in Zolazepam at dose of 9 mg/kg in 3 ml volume. 5 mg/kg Doxapram intravenous injection via ear vein was employed as an antidote. Two animals from Samutprakarn Crocodile Farm & Zoo Co. Ltd., Samutprakarn province were male and female of about 2 years old, 80-90 kg body weight. The other one from Kow Mountain Breeding Station, Petchaboon Province was female of 2-3 years old, 90-100 kg body weight. Animals were fasted 24 hours before anaesthetisation. Time from darting until first falling was 4.7+-0.6 minutes and until sleep with head down on the ground was 7.95+-0.5 minutes. Each anaesthetized deer was moved while being covered with fishing net into a wooden cage of 0.8 x 1.3 x 0.6 cubic m and loaded onto a truck. Recovery was induced by the antidote when deer were in cages. Incomplete and complete recoveries were noticed within 4.66+-0.5 and 23.3+-10.4 minutes respectively after doxapram injections. Prior to vehicle transportation, the deer were left on the truck for 2-3 hours as to adjusting animals to their containers. The transportation was occured during nocturnal hours to avoid from excessive vehicular traffic and heat.
