An inhibitory metabolite against aflatoxigenic fungi was isolated and purified from the culture broth of Cladosporium fulvum. The culture filtrate was acidified to pH 3.5-4.5, added with activated charcoal (2% w/v) for 24 hours and then filtered. Charcoal was extracted with acetone or methanol and the extract was washed with n-hexane and passed through a column of Sephadex LH-20. Final purification was achieved by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) which produced a residue of 6.2 mg/l culture broth. The active compound was partially characterized based on its ultraviolet (UV), infrared (IR), proton NMR (H-NMR) and M5 spectra. The results showed that the metabolite inhibited the growth of Aspergillus parasiticus, A. flavus and Alternaria kikuchiana
