Plastic tape was found to be reliable, nonabsorbable and the least expensive suture material to close umbilical hernial rings in 25 pigs. The pigs were kept in dry pens for 5 days without any food restriction and were observed 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 weeks post-operation and at the slaughtering time. The results were completely satisfactory and no recurrence of the hernias were observed.
