In 1992-2000 totally sylvatic, domestic and synanthropic animals have been investigated on Trichinella infection. Trichinella infection is widespread in wild animals in Estonia, sylvatic species of T. nativa and T. britovi have been found in most of animal species. The prevalence of infection was highest in wolves (80,5%), lynxes (51.5%), raccoon dogs (45.4%) and red foxes (42.9%). Rare cases of pig trichinellosis are registered, only in small farms. T. spiralis and T. brivoti are detected. Relatively few cases of human clinical trichinellosis occur in Estonia. The regulation of trichinellosis control in Estonia is strict, but problems due to improper human behaviour occur in its implementation.
