Tolerance of spring and winter wheats to herbicide in in vitro culture
Kondic-Spika, A. | Jevtic, R.(Naucni institut za ratarstvo i povrtarstvo, Novi Sad (Serbia and Montenegro))
Spring and winter wheat varieties have been compared for tolerance to tribenuron in the zygous embryo culture. Four randomply selected varieties of each spring and winter wheat were used for embryo isolation. The embryos were grown for 30 days in a modified MS (Murashige and Skoog, 1962) medium, to which tribenuron was added in three different concentrations (18.75 mg/l, 37.50 mg/l, 56.25 mg/l). The percentage of surviving calli and the percentage reduction of callus fresh mass in relation to the control variant served as parameters of tolerance. All of the tested parameters indicated that the winter wheats had a higher level of tolerance to the herbicide than the spring wheats.
