The objective of this research was to design an efficient sampler to compare disturbed and undisturbed soil samples. This new portable soil core sampler (inner diameter 71 mm, depth 120 mm) was engineered for gradual sampling of soil profile up to 0.5 m depth by step of 50 mm and extraction of the whole sample volume. It was compared with the professional soil probe Eijkelkamp P1.31 in field conditions and with soil cylinders in laboratory conditions. The soil probe enabled to take soil samples by step of 150 mm only and it was less accurate than the new soil sapmler. The values of bulk density of both sampling methods were variable in the range of 40 to 80 kg/cubic m. The variability may have been caused by different soil profile conditions. The testing of the new sampler showed it could be used for fast and accurate soil sampling for bulk density determination.
