Sesign approach for a semi-automatic cashew nut sheller

Semi-automatic cashew nut sheller, considered to be appropriate for large-scale growers and small/medium scale manufacturers, was given a preliminary design with main criteria on good shelling performance, compactness and economy. The semi-automatic principle consisted of the manual feeding action, to be followed by the automatic action of shelling the nut, employing a power source. The main part of the machine was a compact-sized circular plate on which 3 sets of the shelling blades equipped with clamps for holding the nut were mounted. The plate performed a function of conveying the nut to a position at which the nut was shelled with a pair of blades, with similar action to that of the Model AE (KKU) 2 manual sheller. The power source of the sheller would be a 1/3 he electric motor and it was expected that the shelling capacity of the machine would be 80-120 kg (nuts) day and the shelling efficiency 85 percent or higher. The basic cost of the sheller would be kept lower than 10,000 bahts.
