A Late Bolting Roman type Lettuce Cultivar, "Chensang"

Origin of "Chensang" began in 1997 with a cross between PI 342539 (late bolting and high yield) and PI 342498 (late bolting and disease resistance). We selected desired characteristics from advanced lines generated by pedigree selection until 2002. Especially, we advanced six generations from 1999 to 2002 and fixed good lines. These lines were evaluated for yield and purity in both the lowland and the highland sites, and one line was finally selected for high yield and tolerance to soft rot.
