Study on the efficiency of vetiver grass in comparison with contour bank in alleviating soil erosion rate

Study on the efficiency of vetiver grass in comparison with contour bank was conducted in the Khao Hin Sorn Royal Development Study Centre. The design was randomized complete block with 3 replications and treatments. The treatments were (1) Ploughing up and down slope (2) Ploughing across the slope (3) Ploughing across the slope with 2 contour banks (4) Ploughing across the slope with 2 rows of vetiver grass (5) Ploughing across the slope with 3 rows of vetiver grass. The results from the first year study showed that treatment 3 gave the best in reducing soil loss and water run off but there were not differences in crop yield. In the second year results treatment 4 and 5 showed the efficiency in reducing soil loss and water run off as well as treatment 3.
