Cool-season food legumes, especially chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) exposed to selection for cold tolerance during several years, and this is main reason of their distribution in the Mediterranean regions. In order to selection of cold tolerance and high yielding varieties in high altitude and cool regions, sixteen chickpea genotypes as well as one local check were studied in a RCB design with three replications at rainfed autumn sowing of Kurdistan province during 2001-02 cropping season. Cold tolerance and some characters of genotypes were recorded during season. Based on results ten superior genotypes were selected for further evaluations at the next year.
