Seven dual-type (Fodder + Grain) pearl millet varieties were tested at National Agricultural Research Centre, Islamabad during 2004 and 2005 for plant height, leaves per tiller, tillers per plant, leaf area, green fodder yield, dry matter yield and fodder quality. It was concluded that the cultivar DBR-3 proved superior to all other cultivars because of its maximum green fodder yield, dry matter yield and medium fodder quality. As regard plant height and number of tillers per plant, the variety DBR-3 was at par with the variety MB-87 (released variety used as check 1). Leaves per tiller of variety DBR-3 was at par with the highest cultivar PARC-MS-6. There were no significant differences in different quality parameters of millet varieties except in crude protein and ash. The highest crude protein and ash was observed in cultivar PARC-MS-6 and PARC-MS-3 respectively.
