This study is focused on the free amino acid composition of red clover grown in pot experiment under different methods of nitrogen application (sidedress or local injection application of ammonium sulphate). The both treatments of red clover showed different responses to ammonium nutrition in dependence on method of nitrogen application. The significant increase of proline concentration was observed in plant aboveground biomass under injection treatment in contrast to sidedress application. Proline accumulation has been reported in plants subjected to various abiotic stresses. Asparagine and glutamine in roots were increased in the first and the second day after injection application. The accumulation of asparagine may be a mechanism for ammonia detoxification.
