In the first stage of the study, tobacco wastes were composted with olive pomace, farmyard manure and grape pomace and compost stability evaluation was studied by enzymatic activity measurements in addition to the other physico-chemical methods. In the second stage; the composts were used in a pot experiment to study the effect of the composts on soil microbial properties and maize biomass yield. In the last stage; tobacco waste, tobacco waste compost and N fertilizer were applied to the field soils where paprika was grown. Waste and compost rates were 0-20 and 40 t ha-1 and N fertilizer 0-150 and 300 kg N ha-1.

Üç aşamadan oluşan bu çalışmada ilk olarak tütün atıkları pirina, cibre ve ahır gübresi ile karıştırılarak kompostlaştırılmış ve kompost stabilitesi fizikokimyasal yöntemlerin yanında enzimatik aktivite ile de incelenmiştir. İkinci aşamada bu kompostlar saksı denemesinde kullanılmış ve kompostların mısırın gelişimi için gerekli besin maddelerini sağlama düzeyi ile toprağın mikrobiyal özellikleri üzerindeki etkisi araştırılmıştır. Çalışmanın son aşamasında ise ham tütün atığı, tütün kompostu ve azotlu gübrenin uygulandığı tarla denemesinde kırmızı biber yetiştirilmiş ve deneme toprağının bazı fiziksel, kimyasal ve mikrobiyolojik özellikleri ile biber verimi saptanmıştır. Tütün atığı ve kompostunun uygulama dozları 0-20 ve 40 t ha-1, azot dozları ise 0-150 ve 300 kg ha-1 olmuştur.
