The results are presented of a process involving literature reviews, surveys and a workshop designed to quantify the value of white clover to the dairy industry in Australia, estimate its potential for increase, determine limitations to its potential, and recommend research and development to overcome the limitations. The outcomes of the workshop and of a series of technical group discussions are presented, together with a survey of the situation by State. Appendices present 12 technical presentations on the management of white clover in subtropical, temperate and irrigated pastures, diseases and pests of white clover, competitive and soil conditions affecting it, its nutritive value and plant improvement. General and specific recommendations are made for research and development strategies and priorities.
