A convenient rearing method for Tipula oleracea is described. It was possible to produce five to six generations a year and to provide a constant source of larvae for experiments. The eggs are incubated on water-agar and larvae are reared in moist sand and fed on lettuce. Data on the developmental time, the head capsule width, the mortality and the food uptake of the larvae are given.
