The effect of ammonia treatment on intake and nutritive value of rice straw.

This experiment was conducted to study the effect of ammonia treatment of rice straw (RS) on the in vitro and in vivo digestibilities, and straw intake and N retention of fistulated goats in metabolism trials. Crude protein content increased (p<0.01) 2.51-fold from 5.28% of untreated rice straw to 13.24% of ammonia treated rice straw. Total volatile fatty acid concentration was higher with treated rice straw than with untreated rice straw.
